Jonesborough in the News: Turning Lemons into Lemonade

In a single moment, life can take an unexpected turn—one you never saw coming. I’ve learned that it’s not the moment itself that defines us, but how we choose to respond to it.

Two days ago, the town of Jonesborough approved a $1.6 million land expansion for a uranium plant. This decision will have a significant impact on our community. With hundreds of millions of tons of dust waste expected to be released into the air, there are real concerns about long-term health and environmental effects.

I moved here in July of 2025, and from the very beginning, it felt like home. I live on 70 acres with no neighbors—just quiet, open land and a sense of peace that’s hard to put into words. My landlord has beef cows, and spending time with them has become one of the simple joys of my days. This has been a place where I’ve truly felt myself thriving.

The approval itself wasn’t a surprise. Like many decisions, it was influenced by money and politics. But knowing something is coming and actually facing it are two very different things. Today, I had to sit with the reality that I am downwind of the plant. With the strong winds we often experience here, the likelihood of that dust reaching this property feels real.

So I made a decision.

It didn’t come from fear—it came from a deeper inner knowing. While I once imagined myself living on this farm for years to come, I can now see that my path is shifting. Instead of resisting it, I chose to meet it with intention. Almost immediately, a new vision began forming—one that feels aligned, expansive, and grounded in possibility. I’m keeping the details of that vision sacred for now.

What I do know is this: I can take what feels like a disruption and transform it into an opportunity.

I will savor the time I have left here—the quiet mornings, the open land, the presence of the animals, and the peace this place has given me. And I trust, deeply, that what comes next will be even more aligned with who I am becoming.

Because in the end, it’s not the challenge that shapes our lives—it’s how we rise to meet it.
